How to export your ChatGPT data
- Sign in to ChatGPT and open your profile menu, then Settings.
- Go to Data controls → Export data, select Export, and confirm the request.
- Wait for the email with your download link (or SMS for a phone-only account). Download the ZIP while signed in; the link expires after 24 hours.
- Choose that ZIP above, or extract it and open conversations.json.
Exports can take up to 7 days. Availability depends on your account or workspace. OpenAI’s export instructions.
How to export your Claude data
- Sign in to Claude on the web or in Claude Desktop, then open your account menu.
- Open Settings → Privacy → Export data.
- Wait for the email, then download your export while signed in. The download link expires after 24 hours.
- Choose the ZIP above, or extract it and open conversations.json.
These steps are for individual accounts. Team and Enterprise exports are managed by the organization’s Primary Owner. Claude’s export instructions.
Questions about the export viewer
Is my chat export private?
Yes. The page loads its code and fonts from this site, then reads your file in your browser. It makes no network requests while reading, searching, previewing or downloading chats. Your chats are held only in this tab’s memory; closing or reloading the tab clears them. Links to other pages open only when you choose them.
What are the file size limits?
The limit is 256 MB (256 MiB) per chosen file and 256 MB of conversation JSON inside a ZIP. Everything is processed in memory, so large exports may need a desktop browser with more available memory. Progress text shows the reading and indexing stages. If your ZIP exceeds the limit, extract it and open a smaller conversation JSON file on its own.
Which files can I open?
ChatGPT and Claude account export ZIPs, or their conversation JSON files. ZIPs can contain conversations.json or numbered parts such as conversations-000.json, including in subfolders. Stored and deflate-compressed ZIP entries are supported in modern browsers. This tool does not open chat.html, shared chat links or exports from other AI platforms.
Does it include every branch and attachment?
The viewer follows the current conversation branch when the export identifies it. Notes explain missing branch information, skipped content or unavailable attachments. Some exports omit images or file contents; this tool cannot recover them. Reasoning and tool output are left out of the preview and downloads.
Can I download Word, PDF or my whole history?
